Introducing Assistive Technology (AT) to Pre-Service Teachers: Observations and Experiences

Assistive technology (AT) can help students with special needs their learning, and the importance of AT is on rise development new technologies diversification student body. However, it observed that pre-service teachers need to be better prepared for use in teaching, including awareness, creative innovative ways problem solving, pedagogical “low-tech” “mid-tech” “high-tech” AT. Based observation experience author his teaching an ICT (Information Communication Technologies) course a teacher education program at middle-sized university Ontario, Canada, this paper intends broaden educators’ understanding hardware software, emphasize necessity introduction programs, discuss uses various types tools. By sharing our observations experiences, hoped educators inspired methods expand in-service professional programs.
